Postdoctoral or Associate Research Scientist in bioinformatics

Dr. Wendy Chung’s Lab at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow or Associate Research Scientists with strong expertise in bioinformatics to lead genetic analysis in human disease studies.  The Chung lab studies human monogenic and complex diseases and clinical implementation of genomic medicine, two critical components of precision medicine.

The candidate will apply state-of-the-art computational methods to analyze large-scale whole genome and exome sequence data, interpret genetic variants, and identify novel human disease genes. The candidate will lead one or two of the major human genetics projects in the lab, such as breast cancer, autism, congenital heart disease, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and other birth defects or developmental disorders. The candidate will benefit from a multidisciplinary environment, with close collaborations with Dr. Yufeng Shen’s lab in systems biology, and experts in biomedical informatics, clinical genetics, genetic counseling, and precision medicine.

Preferred qualifications
1. Deep experience in computational analysis of genome or exome sequencing data, especially in genetic studies of human diseases.
2. Knowledge of population genetics, statistical genetics, and molecular biology.
3. Clear communication in writing and presentation.
4. Demonstrated skills in scientific programming (e.g. R and python).
5. Education: PhD. in genetics, bioinformatics, or related areas.

The salary of the position will be competitive based on qualifications.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a statement of interest, and contact information for three reference to Dr. Wendy Chung, Division of Molecular Genetics, Columbia University, 1150 St. Nicholas Ave., Room 620, New York, NY 10032 or e-mail: bs2839@cumc.columbia.edu

Postdoctoral or Associate Research Scientist (Human Molecular Genetics)
